how much money does a married couple have to make before they 're required to file in

For a married couple filing jointly, how much money can we make before we are required to file income tax for 2008?

Tax filing rules for tax year 2008.

Well, the IRS has established specific rules for filing requirements for taxpayers who file as Married filing joint couples that are based upon the age of each joint filiers.

Filing Requirements for Tax Year 2008.

1. For married persons who are both aged under over 65. In this case, the IRS rules state that the married persons are required to file a US Form 1040 tax return if their gross income for 2008 is at least $17,900.

2. For married persons when at least one member of the couple is at least aged 65.
In this case, the IRS rules state that the married persons are required to file a US Form 1040 tax return if their gross income for 2008 is at least $18,950.

3. For married persons where both couples are at least aged 65.
In this case, the IRS rules state that the married persons are required to file a US Form 1040 tax return if their gross income for 2008 is at least $20,000.
