When is a "Divorced Couple" no longer married for Tax Purposes?

Could you please tell when can a couple (divorced) is no longer considered married for tax purposes?

I read somewhere that the rules are quite complicated and even if the couple does not reside together for tax purposes they may still be deemed to be married.
