When will New Jersey State approve an extension of an NJ individual tax return?

According to the New Jersey Division of Taxation, "if a taxpayer has obtained an extension of time to file their Federal income tax return, New Jersey State will grant you an automatic six-month extension provided certain conditions have been met." These conditions are as follows;

• If a taxpayer has paid 80% of their actual New Jersey tax liability in the form of withholding's, estimated payments, or other payments by the original due date of the return.

•If the taxpayers New Jersey return is filed by the extended due date together with any balance of tax due.

•A copy of your Federal application or approved extension is enclosed with your final New Jersey return.
