state return issue

I moved from north carolina to missouri last august, however, I did not work in missouri. Do I need to file a return in missouri? also i was trying to do my state return on line, but it asked if i was a resident of missouri for the whole year. I was not, but again i did not work in missouri last year. could I say "yes" just to file?

“I moved from north carolina to missouri last august, however, I did not work in missouri. Do I need to file a return in missouri?”=======You are a part year resident of NC and ALSO part year resident of MO;so as a part year resident of NC, you need to file NC return ONLY on your NC source income that you earned in NC.You do NOT need to report your NC source income to MO and as you have no income earned in MO, you do not need to file your MO return.
” also i was trying to do my state return on line, but it asked if i was a resident of missouri for the whole year. I was not, but again i did not work in missouri last year. could I say "yes" just to file?”===Then you say NO since you were not a full year resident of MO but were a part year resident of MO. As said above, UNLESS you have earned income in MO, you do not need to file your MO return.
