Unhappy 2008 Tax rebate

Turbotax is telling me that I don't qualify for the tax rebate since I only have a ITIN for my wife. How long can I delay my 2007 tax returns up until I process a SSN for my wife and qualify for the tax rebate? In other words, if my wife gets her SSN at the end of 2008 and we file 2007 taxes in 2009, would I still get the tax rebate or I only have 2008 to get my hands on that tax rebate? Thanks.

What is the lastest time to file to qualify for the tax rebate?

The IRS encourages everyone to file by the normal April 15 tax deadline. Clearly, the sooner a taxpayer file's his or her 2007 tax return the sooner they can expect to receive their stimulus payment.

The IRS has stated that if a taxpayer has "obtained a valid six-month extension to file, filing by Oct. 15 means the IRS can process your return and issue a stimulus payment before the end of the year."

This is the only information available so far, and it is not clear if the refunds would be processed after that date, although I suspect the IRS will generally process the refunds but the refund checks would be delayed considerably if the tax return is filed after Oct. 15, 2008.

Hopefully, your wife will receive her TIN# prior to Oct 15 and that you will be able to file the tax return by Oct 15, 2008.

Thank you so much for your clear response.

I noticed in your reply that is best if my wife gets her TIN# before october 15th. Are you saying that her TIN# should be enough?

She has a TIN#, not a SSN. Should the TIN# be enough to qualify for the rebate?

Thanks.
