| How can California Taxpayer's apply for an extension to file their 2011 Tax Return's?
California gives taxpayers an automatic filing extension through October 15, 2012. Taxpayers are advised to do one of the following in case they can't file by April 16th, 2012;
1. If they are due a refund.
Taxpayers should file their tax return by October 15, 2012. Choose e-file and direct deposit for the fastest refund.
2. If they have a balance due.
Taxpayers are advised to pay the amount that they owe by April 16, 2012 to avoid penalties and interest. This amount can be paid online, by credit card, or by check with form FTB 3519. Then, taxpayers are required to file their CA tax return by October 15, 2012. Taxpayers are advised to select the e-file method to ensure that CA State receives the tax return on time.
