Dependent problem

I claimed my gf as a dependent(she made less than 3,000 last year) and she (sigh) still did her taxes. What are the proper steps to take? I know she has to file an amendment, but how do you file an amendment for taxes that shouldn't have been filed in the first place?

Yours is not a unique problem, an experience CPA or tax professional can quickly solve your problem by filing an amended tax return stating that you the taxpayer inadvertently claimed another taxpayer as a dependent, that should not have been claimed in 2009.

The IRS would not assess any penalties if you quickly file an amended tax return. Don't worry, these mistakes happen all the time and it can be easily rectified by a tax professional!

But will this affect the wait time for the return? We are really counting on that money soon. I have to file and ammendment anyway(adding a qalifyig child) Is it possible to wait for the deposit(another week) then ammend it then? Also is it possible to ammend hers rather than mine? Btw we can't afford a CPA so this all has to be done by us.
