Question What's Withholding?

Hi.

I was under the impression that if my withholding is zero (I'm married, no children) I will have more taxes taken out of my check now, but I'll get a bigger refund at tax time. Or, do I have this backwards?

I just asked for it to be changed and now I think I may have made a mistake. Please help!

Thanks,

mizress

If your impression was that "if your withholding is zero you would have more federal income taxes taken out of your paycheck, and that you will get a bigger refund at tax time," well, you are absolutely correct!

If you have just asked for it to be changed, don't be alarmed, you can simply request the employer to adjust the withholding, that is, if you wish to have a greater refund at tax time!
