Electric vehicle credit question

I bought an electric powered car this past year and am planning to claim the IRS credit. I've heard of a manufacturer's certification and I'm not sure what this is. Do I need to provide this? Does it apply to my individual vehicle? How do I ensure that the IRS knows that I have this vehicle? I know that I'm supposed to put the VIN on the form for the credit, does the manufacturer put the VIN in the certification form?
