1st Time Home Buyer Tax Credit

If I purchase home in 2009,
but my 2009 IncomeTax is less than the New Home Buyer Tax Credit that I will receive,
Can the unused portion of the Tax Credit be applied to my 2008 year,
or can I carry foreward the unused portion of credit to 2010 year?

Thanks,

jeff
