Angry No Earned Income Tax Credit for geezers

I have asked this question of numerous "experts" but none would address it:
What is the reasoning, if any, behind the federal tax code disallowing the EIC once a worker reaches the age of 65? Is there are a valid reason or is it entirely arbitrary? In my own case, I still have the same dependent child and am not retired in any sense, so withdrawing the credit seems like a capricious penalty just for aging one more year.
