Question 1099-R Distribution Code Question

We are currently coding a pension recipient with a distribution code 2 for
1099-r purposes. He reaches age 59 1/2 in the middle of the year. Can we continue to use code 2 to finish out the year, and then use code 7 for a normal distribution the following year or do we have to make the change immediately, meaning he gets two 1099-R's in the year reaches 59 1/2??
