Research grant and travel expenses

Hi,
I hope somebody could know an answer to my untypical question:

I did a research in European University for two weeks in Nov. 2013. This research is not for degree, because I have it already. It was kind of research grant which should be paid after a report submitted. I paid my travel and living expenses out-of-pocket. In 2014, I received the grant payment after I submitted a report for the research.

So, here are questions:
-Is this grant taxable ? (I guess it is, because it was not for earning a degree. On the other hand, the grant is like reimbursement of my travel expenses, but the amount is default)?
- Should I deduct my travel costs (for example plane tickets)?
- How to deal with the situation that my travel expenses are from 2013 and the grant pain in 2014?

Thanks
