Research, language study and personal trip

I took a long trip last year with multiple facets, and I cannot figure out if any of them are tax deductible. I took a seven month trip that started in August and ended in February of this year. The trip had multiple points as listed below:

1) Walk el Camino de Santiago (I met a big player in the German startup scene on this walk who I followed up with in Germany)
2) Tour Germany to meet startup organizations and study German to help me improve chances of getting funded by a German organization
3) Follow a treasure map to a motorcycle hidden in the mountains in northern India (pure pleasure )
4) Tour Colombia to meet the startup scene there and also to learn Spanish to help my chances of interacting with the startup scene there for the purpose of searing funding.

I have school fees for German and Spanish classes as well as airline tickets. I am also writing stories on my trips that will hopefully be published this year. Is there any way that I can write off last year's travel and school costs on my 2013 taxes even though I had no personal income outside of my job (which I quite in August) and renting my apartment out on AirBNB while I was traveling?

I also bought a motorcycle in Colombia to tour the country for my travel-writing stories, which was a $3000 outlay. I was not able to sell it when I left, so I recovered no money on it yet.

Regards,
Camelman
