Sibling in College Abroad Is It Tax Deductible

Hello Experts,

I have a sister who started taking Medical Course in the Philippines. She's 24 yrs old and a US Citizen.

Each month I am sending her money for books and tuition.

Can I claim her expenses as tax deductible?

What publication(s) should I read more to address this issue?

Thanks a lot for your usual assistance!

I do not think so;aslongas your sister is your dependent and the med school in there is a qualified educational institution under the IRS rules; then ,you can deduct your kid’s educational expenses.however, she is not your dependent and you can’t

Publication 970 (2013), Tax Benefits for Education

Thanks again Sir, for not letting me down...

She is my dependent anyway. She just left last July 2013 to study.
