Can a 2009 home purchase be treated as a 2008 purchase to claim Home Owners Credit?

For a home purchase in 2009, Taxpayers have the option to choose to treat the purchase as occurring in 2008 or 2009, depending on in which year generates a credit amount is the largest.

The Taxpayer may wish to treat the 2009 purchase as occuring in 2008 provided the applicable income phaseout would reduce your First time home buyer tax credit amount in 2009 and a larger credit would be available using the 2008 MAGI amounts.

Thus, in this manner the taxpayers you can choose the year that yields the largest credit amount.
