Angry We always get all our fed taxes back, why not this year?

My husband and I are trying to file our taxes with turbotax, which we have used a few times in previous years. Our only income was from wages and it was only $23000 for both of us. We also both get SSI, which was also about $23000 for both. We both had a filing status of 0 and both had a good amount of federal taxes, and yet when we do the tax return we're not even getting half of our federal taxes back. I can't figure out what we're doing wrong. I called the IRS and in addition to being very rude, they basically told me they would need to be doing our taxes to understand what I'm talking about. In addition, they are telling us we have to pay income tax on our social security, which we've each been getting for 15 years and never had to before. I'll post that question on a different thread.
