What is the typical average monthly Social Security benefit for a retired worker in ?

It is worth noting that the according to the SSA Department, "the average monthly Social Security benefit for a retired worker is about $1,050 as of the end of June 2007."

Surprisingly, it seems that the average american worker has not effectively planned his or her retirement!
