Can u write off a loss on sale of home?

I had to sell my house in 2006 and took a loss! Ugh!!

Can I at least write this off on tax return??

Need all the help I can get!

Although this is a capital loss, the IRS specifically disallows losses on sales of principal residence. So, I am afraid you are out of luck on this one.
