Florida to NC State Tax question

I live in Florida and my job here was just eliminated but my company gave me a position in North Carolina. My primary residence is still Florida and I'm currently living in hotels in NC. My HR department insisted I fill out a form to get NC state income tax withheld, which I did. Then they told me that since I don't have a permanent address in NC I have to pay the taxes of a single person without any dependents (I'm married with the 3 kids). The end result is that the state of NC is taking about $292 off the top of each of bimonthly paychecks. One of my co-workers in the same situation said his accountant told to not fill it out and to not pay these taxes. Can anyone clear this up for me? Thanks.
