1099 Income and Vehicle Expenses

Hello,

My husband actually does several jobs parttime. He does backhoe work and construction and last year, he helped out in autobody shop. I have listed his backhoe work and construction on separate schedule C, as they are different types of work and different expenses. He received a 1099 from the autobody work and has to drive to that location to work, he is not an employee, just helps out periodically. Would I also this on separate schedule C and can I use business mileage to and from that shop as an expense. That is his only expense. He uses the same vehicle for the autobody, as he does for his construction work.

Thank you for your input.

“Would I also this on separate schedule C and can I use business mileage to and from that shop as an expense.”-->Yes, I guess so; as your spouse has different businesses, as you said, you need to file aseparate schedule C for each business, for whatever 1099's your husband got for that business. If all of your husband’s 1099's are for his same business, even though they are from different companies, you can add them together on one schedule C.
Asyour husband uses his car for his business purposes as a business person, he can deduct his auto expenses from his taxes. Hecan deduct virtually all his mileage, including the miles he logs from his home to the office or other place of business. IRS rules are very specific in this area; he should keep a record of how much he uses his car for business purposes throughout the year. He does not have to provide documentation of his business use with his taxes. He may calculate his deduction using either the Standard Mileage Rate or Actual Expenses method.
