Meals on Wheels payment deductions?

I've begun receiving Meals on Wheels five days a week. I was told that the meals will keep coming even if I don't pay for them. I do pay them what I can afford each month for the meals, even though I don't need to pay. But since I don't need to pay, I consider my payments as donations.
Would these payments be considered Donations in the IRS understanding of the word?
May I deduct these monthly donations from my taxable income?

I should mention that Meals on Wheels will not provide me with an annual receipt for what I donate to them. So I would need to save my 12 cancelled checks as proof.
