Forgot to Issue 1099's

I volunteer with a non profit organization. In planning for a major trip that occurs every three years, we determined that the organization failed to issue 1099's to the two people who were compensated by the group in 2009 to assist with the trip ($1500 and $3000). Is there a way to go back now and issue very late 1099's or should we leave sleeping dogs lie?
