Unemployment benefits

I am married and the loan income earner in mty family.I currently own a consulting LLC in RI in which I am the officer. I am consulting full time in Mass get paid on a 1099 basis . I am currently the solel employee of the LLC. I pay Mass taxes and file a schedule C for my business. I file an operating statement with the State of RI annualy. My current consulting job will expire in August 2011. If I can not find another consulting job, can I file for unemployment in ths state of RI?, in Mass? Is there a way to set my business up to be able to collect unemployment benefits?

Thanks in advance , for any advice

It is best to check with your local unemployment office. My guess is that the owner of an LLC cannot generally claim unemployment on the cessation of income from the LLC.

Your employer generally has to pay unemployment insurance on your behalf, thus I suspect you would not generally be eligible for the unemployment benefit, as your LLC would not have paid this on your behalf due to there being no W-2 payroll for an owner of an LLC.
