What are the tax benefits of an Annuity? Which are type should I buy at age 58?

I have been approached by a Financial Representative from a Big Life Insurance company. We are talking about retirement plans and savings and then he mentioned that I consider Annuity.

I would like to know if it makes tax sense to purchase an annuity in my retirement funds, and if it does what kind of annuity should I be buying?

I know this might be a little tough to do, but kindly provide me with a general answer.

Tks....
