1040 and 1099-MISC problems

I know this is a last minute thing but hopefully you are up late doing some last minute emergency calls.

I filed my 1040a via TurboTax 2 months ago, and didn't have my 1099-MISC yet. I also didn't itemize my 1040 due to not knowing I could (I'm in a sales position at a car dealership) claim my dry cleaning and various other expenses that come out of my own pocket in regards to my profession.

My 1099-MISC finally came in mid march (It's a bonus card from a vehicle manufacturer) and when I tried to amend my situation I found out that although I have my print out from my original return, I do not have the .tax file that TurboTax saves (different computer).

What I'm trying to accomplish is to amend my 1040 to add my 1099-MISC as well as itemize my return so I'm not owing $1,000!

Please help if possible, and thank you in advance if you can.

Dear Murk,

No need to panic! You can are entitled to file an amended tax return, and in fact you should file the amended tax return as soon as possible. This is because the IRS would be looking for the 1099-Misc on your tax return and would assess penalties and interest for underreporting of income.

Now, regarding your tax software program, I am not sure why the program did not save your file. That, I cannot help you or advice you on, perhaps you can call the software company and they can walk you through the process.

The amended return is a slightly complicated return and I would suggest that you approach a CPA to help you with this amended return. If you need help, you can also contact me via the private message and we can see what can be done.

Remember, you should take ACTION as soon as possible!
