Excel Attachments

Since I hold a number of foreign assets, I am required to report these on Form 8938. For each asset there is quite a lot of detail that has to be submitted. Last year I used a CPA and I provided all the information tabulated on an Excel sheet. Looking at a copy of the return, the CPA simply filled out the summary sections of 8938 (Parts I-III) and then attached a printed version of the Excel sheet.

My question is: does the IRS generally accept attachments like this? It would be very helpful if I could do the same thing this year, since there are numerous assets to be reported. According to the 8938 instructions, multiple ?continuation statements? are supposed to be added as needed. But clearly the CPA didn?t worry about that.

I normally file using TaxAct but I don?t think it supports uploading data for specific forms. But I would rather not have to resort to typing all the info in manually if there is a way around it.

Thanks for any guidance.
