Local transportation expenses

I have a full time job as well as a part-time business, which I operate mainly at home.

Can I deduct the commuting costs from my regular office to my home-office, or do these workplaces have to be for the same job to be considered as "business" costs?

No, generally speaking these are called commuting expenses and are not tax deductible against your other self-employment business, that is your Home Based Business. This business would not be able to deduct commuting expenses generated from your regular job as these expenses are not related to your Home-Based Business. Only expenses that are directly related to your Home-Based business are deductible!

If you do incur commuting expenses related to your Home-Based Business then of course these are going to be deductible against your income earned on your part time business and reported as a Schedule C deduction.
