Can I claim my uncle who is living overseas and I am sending him money to Philippines to support him?

Dear appletango,

You failed the 2 tests that are required to claim a dependent. One is the citizenship and the other is residency.

The dependent must be a US resident and be a citizen or permanent legal resident.

I am afraid that your supporting your uncle in Philippines though a noble cause, will not be considered a dependent for tax purposes.
