What do I put down as my residency on my 1040?

Hi,
I work and live in NYC (legal sublet), but my voting address and license are in/from NJ.
- What do I put down as my residency on my 1040?
- Do I have to file two state tax forms?

thanks

I think you should file a NY state tax return provided you were a full year resident of NY state. If on the other hand, you were a part year NJ resident and part year NY resident you must file a tax return for both the states.

From the facts and circumstances that you have mentioned, it appears that you are full year NY state resident and would only have to file in NY state. I suggest that you change your license to reflect the NY residency.
