Child on Disability in California

10 year old child is on disability due to ADHD and something else. Amount of disability depends on parents income. Father quit his job and mother was not working. How is this done on income tax? Do the parents need to file a separate tax return for the child or do they include it in their income, since they are the ones that spent all of it on themselves and nothing on the child.

Generally speaking, you would claim the young child as a dependent. You would not be filing a separate tax return for the child as the child would be your qualified dependent.

I suspect based on your moderate income you would qualify for a earned income tax credit as well as being able to qualify for your child tax credit.
