Filing form 1NPR

I need to amend my state taxes for the 2012 and 2013. I need to file form 1NPR. My question is, I only need to amend my state taxes. On the form there are two columns, one for federal and one for state. Do I only complete the state column? TIA!

It depends. why do you need to amend your 1 NPR?? Basically, aslongas your federal return was correct and the error was only on your 1 npr , then you'd only amend the state returns, not the federal.you do file an amended return if there is a change in your filing status, income, deductions, or credits. . Most states use amounts from the federal return to fill in the state return and to figure state taxes.sometimes, you can not just amend your state tax return, you must also amend your federal tax return.

I need to file the 1npr because for 2 years I have lived in Illinois and worked in Wisconsin. I did not realize that my tax info with my job was not correct. So Wisconsin was withholding taxes when they should not have been and Illinois was not getting anything, therefore I owed the state of IL at the end of the year. I just realized that Wisconsin should not have been withholding anything so I was told to file the 1NPR to get those taxes back. So I should only be filling out the state side? Also I'm confused as to how to fill it out correctly to get the money back. Any help is greatly appreciated, I don't have the money to pay someone to do this for me but I'm afraid that it won't be right if I do it myself.

You would submit exemption Form W-220 to your employer in Wisconsin, so,Correct you need to file 1 npr/ W-220 as a non resident of Wisconsin to claim your refund from Wisconsin then, you do not need to amend your federal return .Your income that you earned in Wisconsin was already reflected on your federal return .

Also I'm confused as to how to fill it out correctly to get the money back. You may receive free return service.
