Married joint income but living in different states

I got married last year and my wife lived in Maryland for the whole year while I lived in Virginia. She moved to Virginia at the end of the year and we both worked for the entire year.
I am filing our taxes on my own and I realized that each state will tax us based on our joint income when filing jointly. Is it possible to file a federal return jointly while filing state taxes separately for VA and MD? I don't want VA state to tax her part of the joint income and MD state to tax my part of the joint income. What's the best solution around this?

We have no dependents.

Thanks gurus!
