Does claiming EIC preempt usual tax refund?

Hi
I used a simple calculator for my 2014 tax refund. It said I'd get $359.

Then I went thru the whole Tax Turbo free calculator and also claimed the EIC but it said my tax refund would only be $311.

What up? I thought they would be added together, instead it seems the EIC means I don't get the other refund.

best
