State Taxes

I live in Washington for a company from California and work in Oregon. Should my employer have been taking State taxes out of my payroll

you, as a non-resident of Oregon(since you are a full year resdient of WA) need to pay state taxes to Oregon. Since there is no state incoem tax in WA, you may claim taxes that you pay to Oregon on your Sch A of 1040 aslongas you itemize your deductions on your return.Living in a tax-free state while working in a state with taxes, means you’ll have to file a non-resident return and pay state taxes!

State income tax

My wife works for a company as a consultant from home. The company is located in Utah. She lives in North Carolina. Which State tax does she have to file, Utah or North Carolina?

company location is not an issue; the issue is where she works. then she needs to pay tax on her 1099misc to n.c;she’ll have to pay taxes to the state she earns her income from.
