Can I deduct my donation?

My children participate in a competitive sports team that is run by a church. It is free to participate/there is no fee, but they recommend making a donation.
I donate faithfully every month.
Is this something that I can deduct on my taxes, or will it be looked at like any other sports team/social club where it would not be deductable?
