Travel, Medical and utility expenses

I am an only child. My disabled and widowed mother became gravely ill in January 2014. I had to pay her nursing home bill as well as her mortgage, utilities. I traveled 800 miles round trip at least twice a month all of last year. Had to make repairs to my car just so I could make it back and forth and bought new tires. She passed away in late September.I had to pay some of her funeral cost as well. Can I list these expenses on my tax return and where can I list them?

I am so sorry for your loss; I should say it depends;aslongas your mother is your dependent, then, you can claim any medical expenses that you paid for her that were not reimbursed by insurance, including any elder care expenses. To have your mother qualify as your dependent, your must pay at least half of your mother's support, whether she lives with you or in a separate home, which can be a nursing or assisted-care facility. This allows you to deduct a wider range of expenses, including long-term care and nursing services. There is no limit to the amount of medical expenses you can deduct, but as of 2014, only the amount over 10 percent of your AGI,unless you are 65 or older, is deductible. You cannot deduct mortrgage interest(EVEN IF SHE IS YOUR DEPENDENT)/utilizes(unless your mother is your dependent) you pay for your mother if you are not legally liable for paying it, MORTGAGE INTEREST EXPENSES. You have to be legally liable for the loan in other words.
