Two States; three questions (MA and AL)

Hi everyone,
I could use some tax help. My wife (married 2013) works in Boston, where she lives for part of the year and commutes for part, working from a home office in Alabama where we live and own a home. It was fairly close to half Boston and half Alabama in 2014, depending on how you count vacation time out of the country. Going forward she will be in Alabama for a majority of the year, and live and commute to Boston for smaller part.

I have three questions.
1) Is there a choice where to file her 2014 state taxes, given vacation time in neither state? Which would be peferable?

2) Is there any way to claim
a) part of her rent (when living in Boston)--she rents an apt for 12 months, splitting it with someone else.
b) part of her commuting expenses to Boston (when living here)
c) or the home office here in Alabama?

3) Are there any other things we should consider?

Many thanks for any responses!
