CP200 letter claims i received compensation but i suspect someone used my SSN

I just got a CP2000 letter from the IRS stating proposed changes to my 2012 1040. According to the letter, I did not report a received compensation of 190K, so i owe close to 80K in taxes. That freaked me out, I can only dream of making that kind of money. I never heard of the company before and surely never did any work for them.

I sent a response to IRS disagreeing with the findings, along with a statement letter saying that I never received any compensation from such company or any other in that amount and that I believed my SSN was used fraudulently.

My question is, are there any other steps i can take to correct this situation? I thought about contacting the company that reported the compensation, but searching the web, found out they are no longer in business

Thank you for all help you guys can give me

you need to contact the IRS ASAP; Indications your identity may have been stolen and how to report it to us

Thank you for responding. I will do that then, I am going to resend the letter and include that Affidavit with it. I will call them next week too, to make sure they got my letter response...I hope I can solve this by myself, I just cannot afford a tax lawyer...Thanks again
