Why is my return so low?

Hello,
I am a college student trying to file my taxes for 2013. When attempted to file my taxes this year my federal refund was around $260. However, I had forgotten to check the box stating that I could be claimed as a dependent. After I went back and checked the box my refund went down to $2. Last year I received a federal refund of over $100. I made basically the same amount of money this year as last. Can anyone explain to me why my refund dropped to $2?
Thank You!
Eden
