State-by-state lookup for Fran tax?

subject: State Franchise & Business Income Taxes

Question:

We are a small-but-growing IT temporary staffing firm, with consultants place across the nation. Is there anywhere to look up, state by state, what kind of business tax liability we incur when we place consultants in new states?

Looking up the info on the individual states' websites is useless, as it is all in such legalese. It seems an unrealistic burden to ask a small company to jump through all these hoops over a 3 month placement of a temp tech.

(Fortunately, we use ADP for payroll & they handle the states' payroll taxes.)

As long as the consultants earn taxable revenues in other states, they, as non-residents of the states, need to pay tax to the states as contractors/sub-contractors UNLESS there are reciprocal Agreements between their home state and other states where they work. And to claim their state tax credits paid on their self employment taxes to other states on their home state return, they need to file their home state return. So, as long as your consultnant earns money in a state different from the state they actually reside in, he must pay that state's income tax because the income is considered to be earned from sources in that state, not sources in his home state. As long as hid work is physically done in another state so it's the state-source. So, the state gets to tax it. They may need to pay estimated taxes in new states as contractors as required by th e new states. I guess you need to visit each of the new states websites for more info / requirements for self employer taxes

Unhappy State-by-state lookup for Fran tax?

"As long as the consultants earn taxable revenues in other states, they, as non-residents of the states . . . may need to pay estimated taxes in new states as contractors as required by th e new states."

Ok, something got so lost in the translation here.

Was not asking about ANY PERSONAL taxes the employee/consultant might have to pay; we have ADP, and the state-level payroll taxes are taken care of properly.

WE, as the COMPANY, have to pay BUSINESS taxes, often called Franchise taxes, to other states, for having a temp (or multiple temps) in another state.

"I guess you need to visit each of the new states websites for more info / requirements for self employer taxes."

I explained, "Looking up the info on the individual states' websites is useless, as it is all in such legalese", which is the reason I posted on here.

Does anyone know of any kind of resource like I have described?
