Difference in Results with Different Programs?

This is a question for anyone who ran into similar number differences between two tax programs...

For years I have been using TurboTax because, I am a layman. Last year I tried TaxSlayer because I was able to save over $100 than from using TurboTax. So for using TaxSlayer for free, I saved on that and got (for the first time in years, an actual refund the IRS owed me).

So naturally, I went to start using TaxSlayer again this year. I only have W-2, $30 of bank interest, and 1098 for mortgage in a house under my name but I not live there or pay for it. However, this time just using that information, TaxSlayer says the IRS wanted to take another 4000 from me. Say what??? Then after a mild panic attack being I survive off the food bank as it is, I went to enter the same exact information in TurboTax. According to that program, the IRS owes me money, not the other away around.

I have not completed filing either way. Still too early, and I am now trying to investigate why such a large difference.

So here is my question if anyone has experienced the same thing. Have you had dramatically different results using two online tax preparation programs using the same exact information inputted? If so, any ideas as to why?

Thank you.
