Form 8332 - forgot to send

Hello. I appreciate any feedback. I stupidly forgot to attach form 8332 when I e-filed - is it necessary to amend? Do I need to worry about it? If I'm audited, I have the signed form, and my ex is not claiming so there's no problem in that regard.

Thank you.

It depends, since you are the non-custodial parent and file your taxes without form 8332 the IRS might accept them IF the custodial parent did not file their taxes first with the dependent claimed on their taxes. The IRS advises that you should file your return and the form8332 together so there is no chance of your return being rejected, or amended if the custodial parent decides to file claiming the dependent.you as a Noncustodial parent must attach a copy of Form 8332 to your tax return for every year that you claim the exemption. Taxpayers who file returns electronically must mail a copy of Form 8332 to the IRS. The IRS has a special form Form 8453 that "e-filers" use to submit supporting documents. Fill out Form 8453, attach the copy of 8332, and send them to the address listed on Form 8453. Custodial parents don't have to file a copy of Form 8332 with their returns. They just have to be sure not to claim the exemption for the child.

Thank you so much. Mom is not claiming so no worries there (court ordered and we get along, for the most part). Very much appreciated.
