Post Claiming Deduction for Dependents

Hi Tax Gurus,

I am here in US on L1 Visa. My family joined me on 24th Dec 2015 and are planning to return India before end of this Year i.e. 2016.

For the year 2016, I have submitted W-4 claiming deduction for Family.

My doubt is, can I submit my return for 2016 claiming deduction for family. Though my wife has got SSN, kids don't have TIN#.

Please guide me.

Thanks,
Srikanth

you may use the latest revision of Form W-7 to apply and just put "applying ITIN" in depednents' SSN field on your return unles you receive ITINs for your kids before you file 2016 return ; You should complete Form W-7 as soon as you are ready to file your federal income tax return, since you need to attach the return to your application.
