2016 partial HDHP for husband not wife

Hi,

For 2016 husband and wife were/will be in a "family" HDHP for month 1 through 6. For month 7 through 12 wife will be in a "self" HDHP. Both husband and wife are over 55 years old. How much can each/both contribute to an HSA? Right now only the husband has an HSA account. Will the wife have to open her own account?

Thanks,

Bob
