Alabama State increases the "Standard Deduction" for 2008.

Alabama State has increased the Standard Deduction for 2008 "for some taxpayers up to a maximum of $7,500, depending on the adjusted gross income and filing status of the taxpayer.

The standard deduction remains at $2,000 or $4,000 for other taxpayers whose incomes exceed certain income thresholds."
