Write Off New Rental Property in NYC????

Hello, Sole Proprietor of Consulting Business. Live in Virginia (Washington DC area), work from current home which is owned, yet want to rent additional efficiency in residential NYC to expand demograph of business. Can I write off any/all of the associated rental expenses? Would the rental be titled in my name or business? Thanks in advance.

Yes, of course you can deduct the rental expense for the space rented in NYC along with expenses that include utilities, telephone and other expenses directly related to the rental of the NYC property.

It is best to make a rental agreement in the name of your consulting business as this would imply that the consulting business is tenant. Usually, the IRS would look at it more favorably. Good luck with your business.

Also, you may also be able to deduct commuting expenses related to your traveling to the rental property to conduct business, depending on how you conduct your business.
