EFIN if you have a Tax Software

Hello Experts!

I am doing my taxes myself using a software, then e-filing it to the IRS.

Now, please enlighten me on this even if I sound like a dunce.

I know most taxpreparers do like what I do, however they have this thing called EFIN.

Now why would a taxpreparer need an EFIN, if he could efile just like me using his tax software?

Thank you for your help!

#1;correct

#2;tax practitioners, i.e., CPAs, IRS EAs, Attorneys, or RTPRs use commercial tax return software,i.e, Drake, Tax Act pro or pro series etc for tax returns for clients, in general, aslongas you prepare taxes for pay, you need to obtain a Preparer’s Tax Identification Number. Individuals do not have EFINs, only tsx return businesses,i.e, EROs(The EFIN is a number that defines the ERO. It is like a SSN defines you as an individual and an EFIN defines something to be a company/biz). The EFIN is a number that defines the ERO. It is like a SSN defines you as an individual and an EIN defines something to be a company. or etc need EFINs. So once you have tax return business you must obtain an EFIN. If you are in business for yourself, then your business must obtain an EFIN. If you then hire additional preparers for your biz, they need a PTIN , not an EFIN.
