Does the Social Security impose a Marriage Penalty when both spouses require?

There is some confusion and misconception that when a husband and wife retire the "Social Security imposes a "marriage penalty".

However, this is a myth and the Social Security Administration Department has stated that the Social Security imposes no such "marriage penalty" and as a matter of fact, when two members of a couple require, they are each entitled on their own earnings record.
