IRS Lien

A friend of mine recently received an IRS Lien on his paycheck. He had no idea that there was any problem. The IRS had been sending it to his Ex-Wife's address and she was withholding them. He had a new address that was on his paycheck and filed taxes this year under the new address. Does he have any recourse? It's my understanding that once the lien is in place there is no going back. The money is for a discrepancy his wife filed. She gave incorrect information to him but only he is being liened. I believe they filed separately. He already has a large child support payment and doesn't have much left to live off of after the lien. We both work for the payroll company ADP so I understand taxes and dealing with the IRS but on a corporate level. We don't have much interest in Employee Taxes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
